F.A.Q - Fibre Solutions

Is the price of the Fibre line included in the price?

Yes - the price you see, is the price you pay. All our Fibre services are in combo, so the price is for both your Data and the Line rental.

Can I upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time?

Absolutely! We don't like contracts. So, we allow upgrades and downgrades of Fibre speeds up until 5pm on the last day of the month. Keeping in mind that fibre speed upgrades are solely dependent on the provider.

To cancel, we need just one calendar months' notice. If you are still in the Promo period of 6 months, then it's one month's calender notice and R999 early cancellation fee.

Each provider has a different lead time for installation and activation. If your line is already activated, you'll be connected shortly after you sign up.

Can I use my current DSL router?

Probably not, as Fibre works very differently to DSL. But you may, in some cases, be able to use your existing WiFi enabled router to spread your Fibre connection via WiFi. This will depend on which router you have and how the provider installs your Fibre line. But don't worry - we sell you top of the range routers at excellent pricing.

Will I have to pay a setup fee?

No, Sign up for Uncapped Fibre with Flashtech today and you can get Free Installation and Connection. T's & C's apply.

How is Fibre different from DSL?

DSL is dependent on Telkom copper wire infrastructure, which is often unreliable and can be slow if you have a bad line or are far away from your local exchange, whereas Fibre transmits data with pulses of light over a fibre optical cable.

These cables are far more reliable than copper wires and can offer far greater connectivity speeds.

Do I still need to pay for my landline number from Telkom?

No. Traditional landlines require customers to pay a monthly service charge for a landline. You can now save that money, if you cancel your Telkom line rental and switch to Flashtech Voip.

Flashtech Voip is an affordable telephone service that works off your Internet connection. It cuts out that unnecessary landline cost you pay every month and only charges for your CallTime. Perfect for anyone with Fibre Internet looking for a home or business telephone number that is flexible, affordable and easy-to-use.

How long will it take to get connected?

This will depend on the turnaround for your installation and activation. Once the line has been installed in your premises it can take up to 5 days for the provider to activate your line. As soon as your Fibre line is active, you can be connected to Flashtech Fibre within 12 - 24 Hours.

Each provider has a different lead time for installation and activation. If your line is already activated, you'll be connected shortly after you sign up.

Do you want Fibre Internet, but still need a landline number?

We've got a solution for you. Flashtech Voip is a cloud-hosted service, which means you can take your number anywhere in the world. If you have Fibre, then you can cancel your Telkom landline rental and simply port your number across. You can then use this on a fixed VoIP enabled IP phone, we offer super deals on yealink products.

How do I port my Telkom voice landline to Flashtech Voip?

You'll need to supply us with a copy of your Telkom telephone bill (please note that your account needs to be settled, or Telkom will not release your number) and an authorisation letter which will be supplied to you.

F.A.Q - LTE Solutions

Where can I check if I have coverage?

Simply email your address to sales@flashtech.co.za to see if you're covered.

How long will it take for my Home LTE to be delivered?

Within 7 business days, provided payment has cleared (stock dependent)

Which devices can I use with this service?

MTN/Telkom can only allow devices which have been network approved by MTN/Telkom. This range of devices includes: Huawei B525, Huawei B535, Huawei B612, Huawei B618, ZTE MF286

Am I prioritised on the tower?

The MTN Home LTE coverage map is generated specifically based on capacity and network availability, so although you'll be sharing the network with mobile LTE subscribers within the Home LTE coverage area, you won't be impacted by congestion issues. If you get your router from Flashtech, we can ensure that it has the correct firmware configuration to allow MTN to make the most efficient use of spectrum which does not get allocated to mobile LTE subscribers.

Can I have multiple MTN Home LTE services?

Yes, as long as they're used at the addresses where the application for each is placed.

Can I top-up capped services?

Yes, top-ups are available by contacting sales via email - sales@flashtech.co.za

Can I upgrade or downgrade my service?

Yes. All Home LTE packages can be upgraded or downgraded.

How do I view my data usage?

You can check your data usage at any time via emailing a request to helpdesk@flashtech.co.za

What time is Night Time Data on Capped Services?

The Night Time Data period is between 12:00AM and 05:59AM every day of the year.

Do I need to RICA my SIM card?

Yes. You will need to have your original barcoded Identity Document, as well as a valid proof of residence. You will also be required to have a copy of your ID and proof of residence available when your SIM is delivered, and you (the account holder) must sign for it in person.

How many wireless devices can I connect to my Wi-Fi router?

You can connect up to 64 wireless devices on the routers supplied by Flashtech.

What happens if I move to a new house?

You can request to have your Home LTE service moved to another location once a year.

Do I need to sign up for a contract?

We don't like contracts. Which is why our MTN Home LTE services are offered on a month-to-month basis.

Do I need to change my APN settings?

If you order the LTE Router and SIM, we will preconfigure the LTE device that is shipped with your MTN Home LTE SIM - so you will not need to change any APN settings. If you order the SIM only, then you'll need to change your APN settings using the details included in your welcome email.

What happens if I sign up in the middle of the month?

All Home LTE packages are charged pro-rata. So, if you sign up for a capped service halfway through the month then you will pay half the monthly fee and receive half the data for the rest of the month

Is there a cancellation policy?

Yes, should you decide to cancel your package, a calendar months' notice is required.

What speeds can I expect?

Uncapped speeds are determined by the service you choose. LTE is a wireless technology influenced by many factors and can therefore not guarantee a consistent speed. The device used plays an important role in us giving you a great speed experience, which is why we recommend buying your router from us, where we can be pretty sure of a minimum of 10Mbps and maximum speeds of up to 150Mbps. Also, because of the nature of the wireless network, we cannot offer any SLA's on the service.

How long does it take to activate after delivery?

Your SIM card should be active within 30 minutes after delivery. In extreme cases it can take up to 72 hours, but this is highly unlikely. Should you have trouble connecting after 30 minutes, please reboot your device and try to connect again.

Can I use this service on the go or only at certain locations?

The MTN Home LTE service is designed to be used at your home or office, and MTN will lock the service to the address for where you place an order to use the service.

What if I move and my new area has no coverage?

Our MTN Home LTE services can only be used in areas with coverage. If you're moving to an area without coverage, our cancellations process is quite simple and easy.

What happens if I get fibre coverage in my area?

Call us and we'll get you connected on one of our fibre services in no time!

Is the IP private or public?

MTN Home LTE will only provide a public dynamic IP address for their Fixed LTE service.

Does unused capped data roll over at the end of the month?

In-bundle day data will roll over for up to 30 days within a Calendar Month. Unused Night Time data does not roll over.
